What We Work On

Our support work is active and skills-based.

We help participants apply practical tools directly to the situations they are facing in daily life.

Common focus areas include:

  • Emotion regulation
  • Distress tolerance during crises
  • Managing urges to self-harm
  • Interpersonal effectiveness
  • Shame, guilt and self-criticism
  • Maintaining motivation for change

Our DBT Clinicians

All support linked to DBT individual therapy at Life Mental Health is delivered within a team trained in DBT principles.

Our team meets regularly for consultation, helping maintain consistent, safe and ethical care.

This team-based approach means participants are not relying on a single clinician alone.

DBT Individual Therapy vs DBT Programs

Some people benefit from DBT individual therapy on its own.

Others need the additional structure of a full DBT program.

DBT individual therapy may suit you if:

  • You're stable enough without weekly skills groups
  • You want DBT-informed therapy without full program commitment
  • You're transitioning into or out of a DBT program

NDIS & DBT Individual Therapy

DBT individual therapy may be accessed through NDIS funding in certain circumstances.

This depends on your plan goals and how therapy supports your functional capacity.

We regularly work alongside support coordinators and recovery coaches.

Access & Referrals

You don't need a referral to book DBT individual therapy.

We also accept referrals from GPs, psychiatrists, hospitals and NDIS providers.

Sessions can be accessed via:

  • Private fees
  • Medicare rebates with GP referral, where eligible
  • NDIS funding where appropriate
