Our approach

Staff are firstly committed to providing a safe, confidential and non-judgmental setting to enable individuals to feel comfortable to explore themselves and any presenting issues.

Life Mental Health staff then draw from an evidence base of well-researched theoretical frameworks and therapeutic approaches utilising dialectic behavioural therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), mindfulness, psycho-education, motivational interviewing, group theory, bio-psychosocial theory, systems theory, family systems theory, recovery and social justice principles.

How our Counselling / Individual therapy sessions work

Counselling/Individual therapy sessions are typically one hour with some additional time required for initial appointments to complete appropriate forms to ensure confidentiality and safety.

Staff Can Provide:

  • Face to face sessions for people who the private practice in Woombye
  • Face to face sessions at a client’s home
  • Counselling/ individual therapy appointments through telephone or video conferencing.

Payment methods

Life Mental Health accepts EFTPOS, credit card or cash payments and can provide an invoice for services.

Payment details

Counselling/ Individual Therapy sessions can be paid for through a range of different options:

  • Mental Health Care Plan; where participants are eligible for a rebate from medicare once full fee for appointments is paid. Referral for this pathway comes through the individual’s General Practitioner (GP) and requires the individual to be treated under a Mental Health Treatment Plan. Please see bulk billing and costs for more details on how to access a Mental Health Treatment Plan). Individuals are eligible for 10 counselling sessions per year under the Medicare rebate.
  • NDIA funding; participants can use their NDIA funding package to cover the cost of sessions. Life Mental Health staff will liaise with the participant’s support coordinator and plan manager to manage payments and set up support.
  • Private Health Fund; participants can claim benefits from their private health fund to subsidise the cost of services. Note some private health funds do not cover mental health services from accredited mental health social workers. Please specify your private health insurance fund when making your enquiry.
  • Privately Funded; participants can choose to cover the cost of their sessions privately.

Confidentiality

All information provided to Life Mental Health is confidential except in the case of a court order (subpoena), disclosure of a serious criminal offence or a life-threatening situation (suicidal or homicidal intent).

Slav is registered and accredited with the Australian Association of Social Workers and adheres to the confidentiality and ethical guidelines outlined in the Australian Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics.

Cancellations and missed appointments

A fee equal to your normal consultation fee will be incurred if you do not give at least 24 hours notice or fail to attend your appointment (excluding emergencies and circumstances beyond your control).

Counselling/individual therapy is performed by a qualified practitioner who utilises a therapeutic relationship to work cooperatively with individuals and support them to develop understanding, make changes in their lives and adapt to difficult circumstances.

Counsellors/therapists help individuals explore and resolve personal issues by using various techniques and therapeutic interventions. A Counsellors role is to often focus on helping individuals resolve specific issues, to support people to restructure their personality and develop understanding into their self and situation.
